Fulltime firefighting positions in the Acushnet Fire / Rescue Department are governed by Civil Service.  To be considered for a position, a candidate must first take and pass the Municipal Firefighter Entry Level Examination conducted by the Massachusetts Human Resource Division (Civil Service).  A link has been provided for additional information.

The department welcomes residents interested in call firefighter positions to visit the station for an application.  Minimum requirements require the candidate to be at least 18 years of age, posses a valid Massachusetts driver's license and pass a criminal records background check.  Successful applicants are required to attend a four-month training program--beginning each January--which results in the issuance of Firefighter Level I/II Certification by the Massachusetts Fire Training Council.  During this period candidates are considered Recruits and are

limited in the role they perform at incidents and in the station.  They are provided direction by the fulltime staff and call officers.  While in training Recruits receive classroom instruction, practical skill training, and live fire experience through the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.  Upon securing the required certificate these Recruits are made full members of the department and are assigned to a specific company.

Anyone interested in becoming a call firefighter is encouraged to email the Fire Chief at the link provided.
